All you need to know about getting to FlightSimExpo

This year’s event is split across two locations: the Friday seminars will be held at DoubleTree by Hilton Houston Hobby Airport, while Saturday and Sunday’s exhibits and seminars take place at Lone Star Flight Museum.

We recommend attendees stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Houston Hobby Airport and, for the easiest transportation experience, fly into Houston’s Hobby Airport (HOU). This way, all transportation needs are covered, except for travel between FlightSimExpo hotels and the Lone Star Flight Museum.

Getting Around

To and From the Airport

Houston Hobby Airport (HOU) is a quick 10 minute drive, shuttle, or taxi/rideshare from both the DoubleTree and Marriott, and is approximately 15 minutes from the Lone Star Flight Museum. The airport is a hub for Southwest and is also served by Allegiant, American, Delta, and Frontier.

Hotel Shuttle

Both the DoubleTree and Marriott have free shuttles that pick up from the airport on a regular basis. After landing, follow signs for "Ground Transportation" and then look for signs marked "Buses/Shuttles". Hotel courtesy shuttles depart from Curb Zone 3. Feel free to call the hotel front desk to determine the time for the next airport shuttle pickup, or to dispatch a shuttle.

Rideshare or Taxi

Taxis and rideshare apps are both readily available at the airport. A one-way ride from the airport to either hotel is approximately $15. After landing, follow signs for "Ground Transportation" and/or "Baggage Claim" and exit through the door nearest Baggage Claim Carousel 4. Rideshares pick up at Curb Zone 5; taxis depart from Curb Zone 2.

Rental Cars

A courtesy shuttle service is provided between the terminal and rental car facilities at Houston Hobby. After landing, follow signs for "Ground Transportation" and then look for "Rental Car Shuttle" signs. Shuttles depart from Curb Zone 1.

Free overnight parking is available at both the DoubleTree and Marriott, provided that you book as part of the FlightSimExpo room block. Parking at the Lone Star Flight Museum is also free.

George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)

Many international flights land at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), which is also a hub for United Airlines. Although free transportation is not available from IAH, rental cars, taxi, and rideshare options are all available. A one-way taxi or rideshare will take approximately 45 minutes and cost approximately $50.

To and From the Lone Star Flight Museum

The Lone Star Flight Museum is located at Ellington Field (EFD), approximately 15 minutes from both the DoubleTree and Marriott:

Getting between hotels and the museum is a quick 15-minute drive. Rideshare apps are readily available in the Houston area, and a one-way ride from either hotel to the museum is approximately $15. We also encourage attendees to network and arrange carpools, as many guests will either rent a car or be driving their own to the event. We’ve made carpooling easy with a dedicated chatroom for attendees on Discord, the social app for FlightSimExpo.

Flying Your Own Aircraft to the Event

Saturday and Sunday activities take place at Lone Star Flight Museum at Ellington Airport (EFD), meaning you can fly your own aircraft to the event!

We recommend attendees fly into Ellington Airport (EFD) for a quicker and less expensive arrival than at Houston Hobby (HOU). Aircraft parking is available through Signature EFD, the on-airport FBO. Please call (281) 484-6551 to make a reservation. The FBO is located about 1 mile by car from the Lone Star Flight Museum. Upon request, the FBO can provide limited day-of transportation to and from the museum for attendees joining us on Saturday or Sunday. Make sure to mention you’re attending FlightSimExpo for a special rate on fuel!

Please note that ramp/parking space at the Lone Star Flight Museum will be used for their own aircraft’s Warbird Rides Program during the event, so it won’t be possible for attendees to park their own aircraft at the museum itself.

For attendees staying overnight, our hotels are located about 15 minutes from Ellington Airport, near Hobby Airport. Signature EFD can assist with coordinating taxi/rideshare options or rental cars with Enterprise and other major brands. For attendees flying into Hobby Airport, both the DoubleTree and Marriott provide free transportation to and from the main terminal.
